I’ve just discovered the compelling work of photographer Joseph Szabo, who beautifully captures that gawky, in between stage most of us go through during adolescence. Although I didn’t grow up in 1970s / 80s America, I can still fully relate to both the painful self consciousness and sexual tension he depicts. It almost makes me want to go back to that confusing time of change... hmmm I don’t think Edge Lane bowling alley in 1998 would have quite the same impact.
